The Company

VIRTTU has been built on a powerful, singular, shared vision: to transform the future treatment of cancer by fully exploiting the potential of oncolytic viral therapy for the treatment of patients with a variety of cancers, especially where current options are limited.

Formerly known as Crusade Laboratories, the company has been established for over ten years. Our success stems from a background of world-class science, a solid history of product development and a wealth of pre-clinical data, all of which have helped us pioneer the development of viruses for the treatment of cancer.

Over 30 years of internationally renowned research - with funding help from the UK Government through the Medical Research Council – has gone into the development of the company’s most advanced product, SEPREHVIR®.

The Company was at the forefront of establishing the techniques that are now ubiquitous in the growing of viruses the world over. We were the first company to obtain approval to use an oncolytic virus in humans and the first to obtain approval to test an oncolytic virus on children.

SEPREHVIR®, our lead product from the technology platform (HSV1+), has been tested extensively in patients in Phase I/II studies and has been shown to grow and multiply in a variety of cancers, suggesting significant future treatment potential, particularly against a range of difficult to treat cancers.

We hold a comprehensive patent portfolio, including over 80 granted patents and continue to make key innovations and patent acquisitions to strengthen the business.

The company benefits from an experienced management team that has a proven track record in taking products through the full development programme – from laboratory bench to global product marketing.

We are currently headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland and have research and development operations in multiple sites in the UK and USA.
